The Reason this DNC is Hiding their Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: The Inside Story.

This move from the DNC to withhold the publication of its internal post-election analysis concerning the 2024 election is stunning but not surprising. Resistant to unpleasant candor, the Democrats' governing body behaves more like a communications shop than an electoral entity devoted to building grassroots capacities for winning elections.

A Culture Resistant to Internal Critique

Unwilling to challenge the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has stayed within that legacy throughout 2025. Releasing such a report could have demonstrated that party leaders truly desire to foster honest conversation about the strategic failures that enabled the former president to become president again. Instead, the committee is acting as if there is little to glean following the stunning loss of 2024.

"Here’s our North Star: does this help us win? Should the answer be negative, it is an unnecessary diversion from what truly matters," a justification which was presented to justify concealing the report.

Key Issues an Analysis Could Have Addressed

An autopsy report of substance would confront a series of difficult topics. Among them are:

  • Voter Alienation: The loss among a significant portion of the electorate that backed the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal in the close recent race.
  • A Choice to Run: The determined choice by a party leader to stay in the race, alongside an extremely delayed step-aside, has been criticized as denying the party's base of a genuine choice.
  • Abandoning Core Democratic Voters: While facing inflation, the campaign reportedly bowing to elite contributors while failing to challenge the impact of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to adjust a policy position regarding a major international conflict allegedly caused alienating key demographic groups, notably among young people, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Backing: Extensive evidence demonstrates a huge drop-off of Democratic support among young voters.

A History of Evasion

The decision to withhold fits a longstanding habit of sidestepping difficult realities. This mirrors a dynamic in which the vast majority of elected Democrat in Congress went along with a sitting president's determination to running for re-election until a disastrous public debate performance compelled a change.

Meanwhile, large majorities of Democratic voters had been continually telling pollsters that they did not want that candidate to run again.

Financial Questions

A substantive autopsy might also investigate questions regarding where money went, including how much money flowed to insider consultants as well as ad buyers during an electoral effort which expended an enormous sum over a few months.

The Larger Implication

At its core, the secrecy surrounding this report points to a deference to party leaders responsible for an unsuccessful national race. The implication to the party's base – which includes countless dedicated activists – is that they cannot be trusted to understand what the leadership claim to have learned based on an analysis based on feedback from all states.

A political entity incapable to critically review its mistakes is unlikely to break free from the rut that ended up being so beneficial to their opponents.
