RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an underground arms cache in Syrian territory employed by the Daesh militant organization, per a report from the British defence ministry.
The location, located using surveillance, was believed to be storing arms and explosives, the statement said, and was positioned in mountains just above the ancient city of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our aircraft employed laser-guided Paveway IV weapons to hit a several access tunnels leading to the site... early reports are that the strike was effective," the MoD said.
There was no evidence of any civilian casualties in the strike conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft made a safe return, the defence officials confirmed.
The British jets were supported by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
Daesh - also known as ISIS - imposed extremist governance over significant areas in Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This action demonstrates our UK leadership, and resolve to work closely with allied nations, to eradicate any re-emergence of Daesh and their violent and radical beliefs in the area," UK Defence Secretary the minister said.
UK warplanes have carried out patrols over Syrian airspace to "prevent any efforts to regroup" of IS after its routing at the battle of Baghuz in the year 2019, the MoD reported.
"I must thank the personnel of our armed forces involved in this mission for their professionalism and their bravery," he said. "Including them were numerous UK service members stationed over Christmas and New Year. This action, to remove terrorist threats who threaten our safety, shows how UK forces are prepared to act, all year round, keeping Britain secure domestically and powerful internationally."
In December, the American forces carried out what it termed a "massive strike" against Islamic State objectives in Syria, following an ambush resulted in the deaths of two American soldiers and a civilian linguist in the Palmyra area.
The U.N. says Daesh still boasts roughly 5-7 thousand militants in Syria and Iraq.
